University and Careers

Preparing for life beyond Surval

Every Surval girl has her own ambitions, interests and ideas about the future. Our role is to help her explore them, understand the opportunities available to her and make informed choices about what comes next.

University and careers guidance at Surval is therefore highly personalised. Through one-to-one counselling, academic planning, university research, careers exploration and practical application support, girls are encouraged to discover their strengths, define their ambitions and build a pathway that is right for them.

Surval's international outlook is reflected in where our graduates go next: our girls apply to universities and pursue careers across the world.

Starting the conversation early

Preparing for university is a journey rather than something that begins in the final year of school.

From Grade 10 onwards, students begin exploring university and career possibilities through individual guidance and planning. Surval's current programme includes professional one-to-one guidance designed to help each girl develop her own roadmap for university and career planning.

As girls progress through High School, that support becomes increasingly focused.

In Grade 11, individual meetings explore possible destinations, application requirements, external examinations and the different expectations of university systems around the world.

In Grade 12, students receive structured support with the practical stages of applying, including university selection, applications, personal essays and statements, entrance examinations and interview preparation.

Personalised university guidance

Surval girls come from many different countries and their ambitions are equally international.

Our experienced University Counselling Team supports applications to universities around the world, helping girls understand the different requirements and timelines involved.

Support can include:

  • Individual university and career counselling
  • Academic and subject planning
  • University research and selection
  • University visits and international fairs
  • Careers masterclasses with professionals
  • Application and essay support
  • Interview preparation
  • SAT and IELTS preparation where required
  • Guidance on country-specific application requirements

Surval's current university programme combines individual counselling with university visits, international fairs, careers masterclasses and bespoke preparation workshops.

Finding the right pathway

Success looks different for every girl.

One student may be aiming for a highly competitive academic university. Another may be looking for a specialist pathway in Art & Design, Hospitality, Culinary Arts or Business. Others may discover an interest in International Relations, Law, Medicine or the Sciences.

The aim is not simply to secure a university place, but to help each girl understand what she enjoys, where her strengths lie and which next step will allow her to thrive.

That breadth is clearly reflected in Surval's graduates. The 2019–2026 university destinations show girls progressing into six broad fields:

  • Business Management & Finance – 35%
  • Law – 15%
  • Hospitality & Culinary Arts – 12%
  • Art & Design – 10%
  • International Relations – 10%
  • Medicine & Science – 10%
  • Other fields – 8%

A truly international future

Survaliennes progress to universities across the globe.

Between 2019 and 2026, destinations shown in Surval's latest university destinations overview span the UK, USA, Canada, Mexico, Colombia, Brazil, Spain, Switzerland, France, Austria, Hungary, Russia, South Africa and beyond.

The range of institutions is equally broad, including universities and specialist schools such as:

  • King's College London
  • Queen Mary University of London
  • Royal Holloway University of London
  • McGill University
  • Bentley University
  • Parsons School of Design
  • Culinary Institute of America
  • IE University
  • Glion Institute of Higher Education
  • The University of Vienna,

Among many others.

This breadth matters. Surval is an international school, and our university guidance reflects the fact that there is no single destination, country or type of institution that is right for every girl.

Connecting education with careers

University preparation is only one part of the conversation.

Girls are encouraged to think about the wider world of work and begin exploring where their interests and strengths might eventually take them. Careers masterclasses with professionals from around the world provide insight into different industries and routes, while Surval's wider programme develops the communication, leadership, independence and cultural awareness girls will need beyond school.

Our global network of Survaliennes adds another dimension. Alumnae have gone on to careers and lives around the world and remain connected to the school, providing the next generation with examples of the many different directions a Surval education can lead.

Ready for the next step

By the time a girl leaves Surval, we want her to have more than an acceptance letter.

We want her to understand why she has chosen her next step, to feel prepared for the academic demands ahead and to have the independence and confidence to make the most of the opportunities that follow.

That is the purpose of University & Careers at Surval: helping each girl turn her individual strengths, interests and ambitions into a future that is genuinely her own.
