Surval Summer Camp 2022: Frequently Asked Questions

17 January 2022

For over 30 years Surval Summer Camps have been delivering an action-packed Swiss summer adventure to girls aged 8 to 166 from all over the world. Our Summer Campers return home with many new friends, valuable experiences and precious memories they will treasure forever!

Surval Summer Campers join us for 2-6 weeks. Our programme ensures that those staying the full 6 weeks will learn something new every week and have the chance to try every activity offered. We want our Summer Campers to progress in their chosen language, enjoy themselves and take part in fun, adventurous and unforgettable experiences!

When are arrival and departure days?

Arrival day is on Sunday, if possible students should arrive at Surval between 10h00 and 17h00. Departure day is Saturday. We recommend students leave in the morning. When booking flights, please bear in mind that the drive time from Geneva Airport to Montreux is approximately 1 hour 10 mins.

Are transfers to and from the airport included in the price?

Transfers to and from Geneva airport are included on Arrival (Sunday) and Departure Days (Saturday).

Airport transfers on other days can be provided at an extra cost. If required, we can also oganize transport from/to Zurich airport at an additional cost.

What language lessons are available?

French or English are taught to students each morning. Students are assessed when they arrive in order to place them in the correct class. All levels from beginners to advanced are available. Other languages such as German and Italian can be organised in the afternoons at extra costs.

How many students are in each lesson?

The average class size for language classes is 8 students.

What sports and activities do you offer?

Every afternoon, we offer a variety of activities and outdoor sports at school, by the lake and in the surrounding area. We are proud to offer a varied programme that offers each girl the opportunity to try many different activities and sports.

In the evenings we organise quiz nights, games, cinema outings, laser game and bowling and every Thursday we have a Camp barbecue followed by a farewell party for the girls who are leaving.

What excursions do you organize?

Throughout the week we organise outings to places such as the Cailler Chocolate Factory, Château de Chillon, Aquaparc and once a week there is a day excursion to places further away for example Geneva, Lausanne, Bern or Luzern. Our day trips are included in our programme, at no additional cost.

Do girls share bedrooms?

In summer most rooms are for 2 to 4 girls in each bedroom. All rooms have en-suite shower rooms and almost all have balconies. If 2 or more friends are attending Summer Camp together and would like to share a room, please let us know in advance and we will try our best to make it happen!

Mobile Phones

Mobiles are allowed at Surval. We ask that girls not use these in class or in the Dining Room. The best time for parents to call is in the evening (Swiss-CET time).

COVID Measures as of January 2022 (subject to modification)

Surval follows the advice and regulations of the Health Authorities of the Canton of Vaud and the Swiss Federal Government.

Arrival Protocol: all students aged 12+ will be tested upon arrival to Surval. Parents are requested to send a copy of their daughter’s COVID vaccination certificate before arrival to Switzerland. All non-European nationals will need to convert their vaccination certificate into a Swiss COVID certificate before arrival. This takes approximately 2-3 days and can be done on the following link: Swiss Certificate Application Form

Testing: Students who show any symptoms of COVID will be tested and isolated immediately. The current quarantine period is 5 days - it can be prolonged if a student still has symptoms after 5 days.

At School:

The use of masks is compulsory for all staff and students on school grounds. Masks can be taken off when students are in their rooms and when sitting down in the dining room. Hand sanitizer stations are available all around the school.

Cancellation Policy

General Cancellation Policy: If parents cancel their child’s place 30 or more days before the start of our summer camp on the 25th of June 2022, the school will refund the amount paid in full less the Admission's fee. If parents cancel less than 30 days before the start of our summer camp (25 June 2022) or after their daughter has started, the school retains full payment. This also applies to early or voluntary departure, late arrival, dismissal, or prolonged absence unrelated to the pandemic situation.

COVID Cancellation Policy:  If a student is prevented from traveling due to worldwide restrictions or if Surval will have to cancel its Summer Camps due to Swiss restrictions, we either will refund the payment in full or offer a credit note for the amount paid.

In any case, we also strongly advise parents take out an insurance policy that covers all eventualities.
